Johannesburg, 21 December 2023 – SABC2 announces Vetkoekpaleis as the replacement for long-running soapie 7de Laan from the 27th of December 2023, taking over the 6pm slot. 7de Laan will air for the last time on the 26th of December 2023 after 24 seasons.

This truly South African series with homegrown humour set in the small town of Nigel, where the leading character, Worsie Visagie, starts his own “take away” business to create employment for himself and a few others. The trials and tribulations of starting a business from scratch are clearly, and in a light-hearted way, expressed in the series. The battle of the small guy against big business has always been a favourite theme amongst the viewers. The personal problems of the leading characters are another source of amusement and of such a nature that the viewers can identify with the characters and their daily issues in the series.

“Vetkoekpaleis was made 27 years ago. What a compliment to everyone involved that the SABC wants to repeat broadcast this program in 2023, in prime time. Most of the reactions that the series has received from the viewers have been very positive. Maybe the reason for Vetkoekpaleis’ longevity is because it was made with one thing in mind, and that was to be entertaining and do it with heart and kindness. I know the viewers will again enjoy Vetkoekpaleis as they did 27 years ago. There is a whole new generation of viewers out there who will enjoy this iconic sitcom”. Featuring: Alvin Bruinders, known for playing the role of a security guard Sheridan; Willie Esterhuizen, who plays Worsie Visagie; Helene Truter, plays the Poppie Delport; Marga Van Rooy, who plays Ella Visagie; Zak Du Plessis, who plays Frikadel Delport, and Liane Heyl known as Boeboe Botha.
