In this 6 part documentary series we take a look at our country’s exceptional architectural, engineering or construction landmarks and how they changed the natural landscapes and influenced the lives of people. It is hard not to be impressed by the scale of some of these engineering feats and the imagination, ingenuity and vision architects and engineers had when conceiving these “marvels”.
But imagination is not enough, each “marvel” also represents a massive leap of faith in the power of new engineering and technology, past or present, to overcome the challenges of the natural world and to extend the boundaries of achievement.
Have you ever taken a moment to marvel at the remarkable engineering and architectural achievements of the new South Africa? Since the dawn of democracy, South Africa has undergone a remarkable transformation. Not only is this true in terms of building a new and just country offering plenty of opportunities for its citizens, but also in strengthening the economy and the country’s international ties. The transformation is also visible in the built environment. Ranging from international water transfer projects to iconic sport stadiums, South Africa is showing that it is able to provide its citizens with world class infrastructure.
Man Made Marvels showcases South Africa’s engineering, architecture and construction achievements through intriguing story telling. The series sets to uncover the hidden link that connects some of the country’s best-known buildings with the infrastructure that supports these facilities.
