In the last season Lerato saved the day for the President by getting her re-elected as the President of the ANC.  The President in turn invites her to come to work in Pretoria at the Union Buildings as her youth advisor and she has to bring Collins (her paraplegic brother) with her as there isn’t anyone to take care of him while we also saw her love interest, Dan proposing to Lerato at the end of season 4.

The new plot involves not only a rogue unit, but the public protector who fights for the issues of equality in the community of Majakaneng. This story is about the new breed of leadership and the challenges they face.

Like Dineo in previous seasons, Lerato is the proverbial new broom but her idealistic nature threatens to trip her up, as she is exposed to politicking, corruption, necessitated coalitions and sensitive negotiations in an economically challenged and potentially violent environment. All will be lost if she, like Dineo, becomes disillusioned in the individuals running the party. A political party is bigger than the individual. When fighting for a cause the individual must be willing to sacrifice his own immediate needs for the greater good. The fight against Apartheid demonstrated this.

Forty years ago on 16 June 1976 the youth of SA took the streets as a collective to fight for their right as individuals, many individuals paid the ultimate sacrifice that day when they paid with their lives. The image of Hector Peterson must never be forgotten by young or old as it reminds them of the many sacrifices to free all South Africans. It is on this foundation that we build a new future together as a nation.

Precious Makgaretsa, Thembi Jones, Mothusi Makgano, Renate Stuurman, Presley Chweneyagae, Anele Matoti, Mary Makgatho, Mishqah Parthiepal.
