This week on 50|50

Date: Oct 19, 2020

This week the 50|50 team is off to the Lapalala Wilderness where an elephant bull is getting a new tracking collar.

But, to track, dart and collar a majestic animal weighing over 6-tons is no easy feat, with the safety of the animal being the most important consideration.

A few years ago, a project led by the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity ( and funded by the Water Research Commission), was launched in the Krom River, in the Cederberg Mountains of the Western Cape. This week we take a look at how some of the students are learning from some of South Africa’s best aquatic ecologists.
The Grumeti River is home to some of the world’s biggest crocodiles. This week we take a peek into the lives of these fierce and fired reptiles.

The youth of South Africa have a lot to say when it comes to environmental issues! In the past few months we’ve been asking our younger viewers to send in cell phone clips of themselves telling us about their environmental causes and what they’re passionate about.

VeldFokus brings us a colourful arrangement of contributions that capture some of our country’s abundant wildlife. This week we take a look at a bat giving birth, a kori bustard playing with a dead hare and, loads more entries!
Tune in this Monday at 7PM on SABC 2!
