This Sunday 03 March 2019 on the season finale of 5050
5050s Past, Present and Future
It’s our season finale and to celebrate 35 years of 50|50 we’re doing things a little differently. We’re taking a trip back in time so expect to see some old familiar faces and look at how the show has changed and grown over the years. The theme of the episode is evolution: where we’ve come from, where we are and the future.
If you’ve been watching the news over the last few months, you’ll have seen the drama unfolding on the Wild Coast where the Amadiba community has been fighting against a proposed mine and an extension of the N2 highway right through their land. But, this is not a new issue. In fact, 50|50 has been covering the story since the early 2000s. We look back at the history of the issue to find out why it’s still ongoing, and what the latest developments are.
It’s 27 years since the Earth Summit in Rio, a defining event where the world’s leaders gathered to tackle issues and find solutions to the mounting problems facing the environment. Conventions were signed, agreements were reached and goals were set. But, how much of that have we really achieved in nearly 3 decades since then? And is our planet any better off now compared to 1992? Tune in to find out.
Poaching has become one of the most significant problems facing our wildlife and our wild habitats. In this story we take a look at the issue from a global perspective.
WATER EXPLORERS 50|50 has always been a huge supporter of the youth. After all, they’ve got curious minds and are eager to learn. We take a look at some of the ways young people have inspired us over the years. From there it’s off to the south coast where a rural school is adopting innovative ways to save water – they’ve even won an international award for their efforts! VELDFOKUS In VeldFokus we meet the man who came up with the idea for VeldFokus over 30 years ago! Danie van der Walt is a living legend and Bertus chats to him to find out how it all started… and how it’s changed. Of course, it’s the announcement of the VeldFokus grand prize winner for the season. Don’t miss it!
Tune in this Sunday at 19h00 on SABC 2!
