SABC partners with Women INpowered for 16 Days of Activism
SABC TV Network in partnership with Woman INpowered (PTY) Ltd. is raising its hand in support of the “16 Days of Violence against Women and Children” campaign
SABC TV Network will hold a staff activation at the SABC M1 studios, in Johannesburg, on the 23rd of November as the launch of the campaign. Woman INpowered will hold a master class, which comprises of the theory talk including the practical lessons. It is a personal protection programme to give women the ability to make a choice in a life threatening situation.
The speakers on the day will include the GCEO of the SABC – Mr Madoda Mxakwe, SABC Group Executive: Television: Ms Nomsa Philiso, Mr Mark Grobbelaar (Founder) Woman INpowered and the Key Note address will be from Ms Barbara Watsons.
Gender based violence is growing at an alarming rate globally. The World Health Organization (2013) report has the following statistics with regards to gender based violence. ‘Almost one third (30%) of all women who have been in a relationship have experienced physical or sexual assault. In some regions, 38% of women have experienced intimate partner violence. Globally, 38% of all murders of women are committed by intimate partners. Globally, 7% of women have been sexually assaulted by someone other than their partner.
It is for this reason that the SABC TV Network sees the need to stand up and be the change we want to see in the world.
