Coming up on 5050 this Sunday 16 December 2018
On this Day of Reconcilliation we celebrate being “proudly South African” by taking a look at the vets and researchers developing ground-breaking drugs for wild animals. South Africa is a leader in this field with some of the most sophisticated technology right here on home soil! Bertus visits one of these facilities and gets the lowdown of some of the incredible developments that are making procedures on wild animals much, much safer.
WONDERWÊRELD: WHALE SHARKS
In Wonderwêreld we fill the screen with the world’s biggest shark. The whale shark is one of the ocean’s gentle giants and it’s joined by a manta ray “flying” into view as well. All of these creatures are connected to the next in a complex web, all playing their vital role in the system and ultimately the health of the ocean. It’s beautiful and mesmerising, so don’t miss it!
ALLAWÊRELD: EAGLE EYES
Urban KwaZulu-Natal is teaming with wildlife, including some of South Africa’s most powerful eagles, Crowned Eagles. But, like all wildlife, these eagles are threatened, and keeping track of population numbers is essential. Here, this happens under the watchful eye of researcher Shane McPherson. In Allawêreld we join him as he scales 40ft trees to monitor over 90 nest sites and track chick survival with the help of the neighbours.
SIMON SAYS: BLUE SKY
In Simon Says we find out how and why the sky is blue, with Simon taking a moment to scientifically explain the colour prism.
VeldFokus is all about predators on the prowl! From a cunning jackal…to the mighty king of beasts…to the stealthy crocodile…we round off this feeding frenzy with a beautiful family moment above water.
Tune in this Sunday at 19h00 on SABC 2!
