Motswako is back for its 20th season
After a long hiatus on the screens, SABC 2 magazine show MOTSWAKO makes a welcome return starting on Thursday, 13 August 2020 at 20h30.
The talkshow is still presented by businesswoman, vivacious and talented Sechaba Gqeba. Motswako is a host driven show that provides a platform for women to engage in conversation with each other. It empowers, inspires and informs by allowing women to connect, learn, and share their experiences with other women. In the first episode we feature the ladies in the entertainment industry i.e. Lamiez, Lady Zamar and Bontle Modiselle. This episode looks at how contemporary music has given women the platform to express their identity, sexuality, protest against gross violation on their bodies and their very beings.
Motswako season 20 is a celebration of two decades of championing poignant conversations with South African women. These conversations have changed lives, educated women and empowered them to be the best of themselves in a society that presents many challenges for women- especially women of color. This season is about showing our viewers that they too can achieve their dreams and do so in a major way- regardless of where they come from, what their socio-economic circumstances are or the untruths they’ve been told about themselves before.
With the global success of women like Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi, Nomzamo Mbatha, Mama Esther Mahlangu, Lazy Makoti author Mogau Seshoene, Mihali Ndamse and Lindiwe Matlali there’s no doubt that the sky is the limit for South African and African women in the world. Season 20 will be deliberate in being a platform for representation of all types of women in our society. From women of different races, class, sexuality, trans women and non-conforming humans, this season will be bold in representing an array of women and topics across society.
From a visual point of view, we are thrilled to be using our home as a platform to showcase black female visual artists. We have partnered with various visual artists whose work we curate on our set every cycle- creating a visual narrative that is continually in motion.
Another excitement is the partnership with Lesedi FM and Ukhozi FM who are our radio partners. Our viewers can catch the discussions on Lesedi FM breakfast show, Monate Breakfast Show presented by Twasa on Wednesdays between 06:30-09:00. Ukhozi FM is also in the mix with Jabulujule presented by Lady D, Thursdays between 09:00-12:00.The conversations that take place on our couch will therefore expand on those radio platforms- ensuring that Motswako remains top of mind even when off screen to continues the conversation off-screen..
