South African soccer fans will definitely be able to watch Bafana Bafana's match against Sierra Leone on Saturday, on SABC TV. The public broadcaster and the South African Football Association (Safa) confirmed the agreement on the broadcasting of the African Nations Cup qualifier. It has been a long time coming, and it took the intervention of Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula.
For the first time in years, Safa and the SABC are singing from the same hymn book on the broadcasting of all the national team's matches.
Mbalula confirmed that Safa and the SABC have found each other and now even plan to co-operate in the future to have a comprehensive agreement for all future games of Bafana Bafana. Safa president Kirsten Nematandani says they are partners in the interest of South Africa as football is a national asset and belongs to all. He says they cannot do without each other. A long-term contract that will secure the future broadcast rights of Bafana matches is expected to be signed within the next week or so.
